Selling commercial product to an individual | 10/30/2014
I sell a product online for business use. However, an individual has purchased it, and days after receiving it, wants to return it. I cant pay him. He paid in advance, and I have already spent the money on importing it from a Chinese supplier.
You wouldn't class this as a consumer product, so I refused, but now he has gone and made a small claims against me, quoting consumer protection/distance selling.
Am I supposed to check who I am selling to? A customer without a company name, could...

Get free opinions on your website or planned changes | 10/30/2014
I just thought I would mention usability hub to anyone who would like to get views on their website.
I came across it a couple of weeks ago. You can upload your homepage or do a screenshot (which is what I did although it looked a little blurred) and then get people to visit/view the page and give their opinion and comments.
The good news is that it is free if you only want a limited number of responses - I chose 20 - which proved to be more than enough to get a consensus. It was...

employee got parking ticket, is company liable? | 10/30/2014
My friend has asked me for advice so I've come on here,
Her job involves delivering flowers for the company she works for, a few days ago she was delivering to a shop and got a parking ticket. It was a loading bay, but as the parking attendant did not see her loading anything at the time she gave the company car a ticket.
Her employer is going to take the parking ticket charge out of her wages, but she believes it is unfair as it was a loading bay and she assumed it would be OK,

Facebook Advertising - worth a try | 10/30/2014
Just wanted to share - hopefully this might be of interest to others who are thinking of FB advertising - or who wonder if it's worth it.
After a dismal first ad campaign in the summer of last year, we decided to try another FB campaign this summer. This time, I took more time on creating the campaign and carefully targeted our audience.
Result? This month (and we have a day to go yet) we have hit our highest sales month in two years. I have to say that October is generally the...

Are shows like 'The Apprentice' making small businesses look bad? | 10/30/2014
So it's 'The Apprentice' season again and I can't even bring myself to watch it anymore after being subjected to a mere 10mins of episode 2, (I missed Ep 1).
I used to love the show in the early series but now it's everything I hate about business and it seems to be a complete fantasy drawn up to get viewing figures.
Anyone else think it makes small businesses look bad?
BTW: Shameless plug alert, we've a post about it on our website......

SEO Help | 10/30/2014
I changed from weebly to opencart a month ago and now my google ranking is terrible, when with weebly I was number 1. I have been told that the poor ranking is because when I changed sites I did not complete the 301 redirects, if I can get instruction how and where to do this I'am quite capable of doing it myself. I have managed to grab some of my old weebly urls as google it still using them, my question is....considering I sell over 50 items, do I really need to complete redirects for every...

Tax implications ? | 10/30/2014
Hi ... my first post .... will be selling up my window cleaning business within next few months ... lets say for round figures £10000 all of it being goodwill ... if I was to reinvest that money back into my next venture of commercial pressure washing (used van, pressure washer, other equipment) and if I was to write all of this off in 1 go would my tax position balance out to zero on the sale ?
How important is grammar in your business name? | 10/30/2014
I have an idea and registered a business name "we saving" but i know that "we're saving" is technically the correct way to say it, however, I just don't think it sounds as good for a business name?
whilst i want to believe people will remember it because it ISN'T correct (some research suggests that people remember things like this better when they recognise they are wrong when they first see it) i don't want people to look at it and think we're unprofessional (such as we aren't educated...

Conflicting advice from my accountant/spongbob plan | 10/30/2014
So having been fretting over business problems and considering this for a while; I started to instigate the spongebob plan & sent the stock letters to HMRC/VAT as the only real creditors.
I also informed my accountant - I'm currently late filing my end of year return and the last VAT quarter but in line with the spongebob plan I wasn't planning to submit them. My accountant has replied saying: "Unfortunately closing down a company is not as simple as writing a letter to
HMRC. HMRC will...
