David was born in Philadelphia in 1961. His study of the guitar started after hearing the music of Joan Armatrading in 1976 and a friend likening her guitar playing to that of a classical guitarist. In 1977 David attended a concert by Philadelphia Guitarist Linda Cohen(no relation) It widened his eyes and ears and the quest has never ended. Along with his studies on the oud and guitar, David has studied the Chinese Pipa with Master Sun Li and the highland bagpipes with the Pipes & Drums of the Jersey Shore of which he is now proud to be a member of the marching band. David's teaching studio is located in Ocean Grove New Jersey and serves as President of The Ocean Grove Area Chamber of Commerce. In 2003 David started the Ocean Grove Foodbank Benefit Concert that is held the last Saturday in January with all proceeds going directly to the Monmouth/Ocean County Food Bank. Realizing the need for more promotion of the classical music in the Philadelphia and Jersey Shore areas, David initiated the web sites: PhiladelphiaClassicalMusic.com and JerseyShoreClassicalMusic.com. The Philadelphia site contains interviews, features, news and a calendar of the local classical music scene. The sites are opened to all classical musicians and presenting organizations in the Philadelphia and Jersey Shore areas. David has been featured in the Montgomery County Ticket, Asbury Park Press, Ocean Grove Times, The Ocean Grove Record, Puerto Rican Panorama WPVI T.V. Philadelphia, G-ROCK 106.3 and The Breeze Radio 107.1 Monmouth County, NJ and Crossover w/ Jill Pasternak WRTI 90.1 Philadelphia and has also written for Philadelphia Music Makers Magazine. David Cohen studies Tourism Management at the Temple University School of Tourism and Hospitality Management and is also founder of Ocean Grove Boutique Weddings and Events.
